Concrete Channel Wall Drainage | Estudillo Canal Flood Control Project
15024 Crosby Street, San Leandro, CA
Industry: Water Management
Material: Reinforced Concrete
Product: JF4SSCVLV
State: CA

Case Study Details
Following severe storms in early 2023 that caused over 300 feet of the Estudillo Canal’s west channel wall to collapse, emergency and permanent repairs were required. The concrete channel, originally built in the 1960s, needed a full wall reconstruction. The solution was to implement a drainage retrofit to relieve hydrostatic pressure and prevent future failures.
Products Used
- 32 units of JET Filter – JF4SSCVLV: 4″ Diameter Closed End Maintainable Weep Hole Filter with Check Valve, featuring ASTM 316/316L Stainless Steel Housing and Mirafi® Filter-Weave FW 300 Geotextile Filter Media.
Solutions
The weep hole system was embedded within the reconstructed concrete channel wall. This relieves hydrostatic pressure, filters sediment, and allows crucial maintenance access, ensuring the long-term stability of the flood control structure.
