Case Study Details

The L-8 Canal in Canal Point, Florida, faced critical drainage failures due to aging metal culverts, necessitating urgent infrastructure replacement. This South Florida Water Management Project (SFWMD) “L8 Dupuis Culvert Replacement” project addresses the deterioration of the G-261, G-262, and G-263 structures, key components of the regional water management system. Over time, corrosion and decay compromised the culverts, leading to water flow inefficiencies, erosion risks, and infrastructure instability. CES Consultants, in collaboration with Ebsary Foundation, led the replacement process, ensuring the integration of long-term drainage solutions to preserve Florida’s critical water infrastructure.

Solutions

Corrugated metal culverts present unique challenges in drainage integration due to difficulties in achieving a secure seal between the drainage system and metal structures. The JET Filter’s maintainable drainage solution was selected for its ease of installation, hydrostatic pressure relief, and ability to prevent soil migration without compromising the culvert’s integrity. By employing sustainable infrastructure practices, the South Florida Water Management District ensured long-term durability while effectively managing taxpayer funds. This project serves as a model for proactive water infrastructure stewardship.
