Steel Retaining Wall Drainage | Tang Road Project
Bangor Base, Kitsap County, WA
Industry: Transportation
Material: Steel Sheet Piling
Product: JF4SSCVLV
State: WA

Case Study Details
The Tang Road Repair Project at Naval Base Kitsap was launched to enhance drainage and structural performance behind steel sheet pile retaining walls. The project aimed to repair an MSE seawall, replace the road surface, and replace an undersized culvert. The region’s marine conditions and embankment saturation risks required a robust solution to relieve hydrostatic pressure, control erosion, and retain soil near the critical roadway.
Products Used
- 73 units of JET Filter – JF4SSCVLV: 4″ Diameter Closed End Maintainable Weep Hole Filter with Check Valve, featuring ASTM 316/316L Stainless Steel Housing and Mirafi® Filter-Weave FW 300 Geotextile Filter Media.
Solutions
The solution involved installing the 73 maintainable weep hole assemblies through the new sheet pile wall system. This ensures long-term flow stability and provides critical access for future maintenance and flushing.
