Case Study Details
The challenge of the Red Rocks Amphitheatre Drainage Project involved natural rock formations and sloped landscapes where rainwater runoff frequently traveled beneath the pathways, erosion risks threatened the stability of the walkways and landscaped areas, and hydrostatic pressure accumulated behind the rock faced walls. The goal was to implement a simple, durable, and maintainable solution that would mitigate erosion, direct water properly, and protect the venue’s infrastructure without disrupting its historic appearance.
Products Used
- 1 unit of JET Filter – JF3SSCVLV: 3″ Diameter Closed End Maintainable Weep Hole Filter with Check Valve, featuring ASTM 316/316L Stainless Steel Housing and Mirafi® Filter-Weave FW 300 Geotextile Filter Media.
Solutions
The solution for the Red Rocks Amphitheater involved a two part system. The first is the installation of the JET Filter maintainable weep hole assemblies to relieve the hydrostatic pressure. The second is the addition of custom diverters. The custom diverters were added to the face of the rock wall to help redirect surface runoff away from critical erosion zones. They were designed to preserve the natural landscape while improving drainage management.
