Case Study Details

The Fort Sill drainage project located at the Fort Sill Substation in Lawton, Oklahoma, required drainage improvements that were made to the reinforced concrete retaining walls using JET Filter System’s maintainable weep hole technology. This project, completed by WMS R&B LLC under the direction of CDS Muery Engineering, aimed to relieve hydrostatic pressure and extend the wall’s performance. Reinforced concrete retaining walls like those at Fort Sill’s Howitzer Trail are prone to hydrostatic pressure buildup and soil erosion without proper drainage integration. This often leads to wall deflection, cracking, or settlement—resulting in premature structural failure and costly repairs.

• 42 units of JET Filter – JF3SS: 3″ Diameter Open End Maintainable Weep Hole Filter, featuring ASTM 316/316L Stainless Steel Housing and Mirafi® Filter-Weave FW 300 Geotextile Filter Media.

Solutions

The team installed 42 JF3SS maintainable weep hole assemblies, extending through proposed reinforced concrete barriers. These open-end retaining wall drainage systems improve drainage while offering easy access for long-term maintenance. This retaining wall drainage system design ensures effective hydrostatic pressure relief, soil filtration, and long-term durability in the high-moisture environment surrounding the Fort Sill Substation Bank Extension.
