The Bridge 1016 rehabilitation project in Porter County, Indiana, focused on restoring structural integrity and improving long-term drainage performance at the SR 249 by US Steel-Portage crossing. This initiative ensures safer roadway conditions while reducing future maintenance demands through advanced drainage design. The aging structure of Bridge 1016 exhibited signs of wear and potential vulnerability due to insufficient drainage. Without an effective system to relieve hydrostatic pressure behind the structure, the bridge faced risks of water infiltration, soil migration, and structural damage. To protect public safety and enhance the lifespan of the bridge, Porter County moved forward with a rehabilitation plan that included a focus on modern, maintainable drainage components.

In collaboration with the Lochmueller Group (Engineer of Record), and under the management of Porter County, the reinforced concrete bridge drainage rehabilitation project incorporated a JET Filter drainage solution tailored to handle long-term water flow, erosion resistance, and soil retention. Key elements in the bridge drainage rehabilitation included: integration of maintainable weep hole drains, drainage design coordinated with reinforced structure upgrades, long-term reduction in hydrostatic pressure, improved resilience in heavy rainfall and high-moisture conditions.
